If you’re a Charles Schwab user, you may experience a recurring issue where your account disconnects 10 to 30 minutes after reconnecting. This guide explains why this happens and how to fix it.
If your account disconnects shortly after reconnecting, it’s likely due to a mismatch in the number of accounts authorized.
When you first connected, you may have shared multiple Schwab accounts.
If, during re-authentication, you only select some of those accounts, the system detects a mismatch and causes the error.
Go to the Options Auto Trader dashboard.
Click on your profile image (top right corner).
Select "Profile" from the dropdown menu.
Scroll down to "Broker Settings" under "Broker Connections."
Click "Connect Your Broker."
Select Schwab and click "Create Connection."
Follow the authentication process:
Enter your Schwab login credentials.
Complete the two-factor authentication process.
Click "Authorize with Options Autotrader."
Accept Schwab’s terms.
Ensure you select the same accounts you originally connected.
If you've previously connected multiple Schwab accounts but now only use one or two, you need to remove the extra accounts that no longer match your authentication.
Go to Profile > Broker Settings > Broker Connections.
Identify accounts that are not included in your Schwab authorization.
Click "Disconnect" on the accounts you no longer use.
Confirm the disconnection (This will remove all linked AutoTraders for that account).
Click on your profile image and go to "Connect Your Broker."
Select Schwab and re-authenticate.
Ensure you select the same accounts that appear in your Broker Connections.
Complete the process and confirm the accounts are connected correctly.
Your account should now remain connected without disconnecting after re-authentication.
If issues persist, double-check that all accounts in Schwab match exactly with those in Options Auto Trader.
If necessary, disconnect all accounts and start fresh following the steps above.
By following these steps, you can ensure your Schwab account stays connected without unexpected disconnections. The key is to always match the accounts you originally authorized with the ones you reconnect. If you’re still having trouble, try disconnecting and re-authenticating all accounts.
